The blue and white porcelain has a long history. It was first made during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in China. During this time period, there were two different types of blue and white porcelain: Jingdezhen ware and Ruyao ware. Jingdezhen ware was made from 5 colors: iron oxide red (砖色), cobalt blue (青砖), green glaze (绿釉), yellow glaze (黄釉) or brown glaze (棕釉). Blue ornaments were painted on top of these colors before firing them at high temperature to create a beautiful finish!
