Overview

The procedure for otoplasty typically takes one to two hours to complete and involves reshaping the cartilage and repositioning the ear closer to the head. The incision is usually made in the back of the ear, and the cartilage is reshaped to achieve the desired result. After surgery, the patient will need to wear a protective headband for several weeks to help hold the ears in place as they heal. Pain and swelling are common side effects of otoplasty, but these should subside within a few days to a week. Most patients are able to return to work and normal activities within one to two weeks of the procedure.
