Overview

afAutomatic feeders for feeding fish were manufactured and evaluated. Feed particle size, air flow rate and feeder screw speed are the most important factors affecting the performance and efficiency of automatic feeders. It was tested at 3 particle sizes (1, 2 and 3 mm), 3 air flow velocities (10, 15 and 20 m minutes) and 5 screw velocities (180, 360, 540, 720 and 900 rpm). The productivity, efficiency, specific energy consumption and cost of the automatic feeder are determined. The results show that the automatic feeder productivity increases with the increase of the screw processing feed particle size, air flow and rotational speed, and the automatic feeder efficiency increases with the increase of screw speed until it reaches a maximum at 540 rpm, then remains unchanged at 720–900 rpm, and then decreases with increasing speed. At the same time, the specific energy consumption of the automatic feeder decreases with the increase of the feed particle size, air flow and screw processing speed. For all treatments being studied, the total cost of using an automated feeder ranged from 0.09 to 0.16 EGP kg (= 15.63 EGP). This feeder will save time, effort and cost for the fishery.Automatic feeders for feeding fish were manufactured and evaluated.
