Origins Of the system of HERBAL CARE in Sri Lanka.
Rishis or masterminds have revealed the pulse (Nadi) Diagnosis, herbal formulas and behavior rules to maintain good health including healthy male PROSTATE GLAND and WOMB of female which is vital for conceiving gifted children.
The treatment system indigenous to Sri Lanka (Deha Dhamma) had its origins in mythical times dating back to ancient Buddha’s or Rishis and then Sri Lanka was recognized as Dharma Deepa (treasure island of wisdom).Rishis like Pulasthi, Agasthi & others have revealed the knowledge for this system of medicine and Rishi Pulasthi was king Ravana's grandfather. The first great physician the world has seen was mighty Sri Lanka king Ravana and is credited with the authorship of 4 books on herbal medicine and maintaining good health. They are,
1) Arkaprakasha - Book on distillation.
2) Nadi Prakasha - Book on pulse diagnosis.
3) Kumarathanthra - Book on conscious conception and child health.
4) Udisthanthraya - Book on spiritual and ritual healing.
Mythical king Ravana was not only a great king but was skilled in ten different sciences and the greatest mater of acupuncture and herbal medicine of his time. Presently archaeological evidence prove that his knowledge has spread beyond Sri Lanka as well. No king of any other country in history could boast of such a collection of noble accomplishments. The Indian Ayurvedic system was amalgamated with the indigenous system of Herbal Medicine only after the introduction of recent Buddhism to Sri Lanka in the 3rd century B.C. and the knowledge has been handed down from generation and are written and preserved in palm (ola) leaves. The remaining ruins of ancient hospital sites at Mihintale, Ritigala and Mana kanda in Anuradapura district are believed as the world’s known oldest hospitals and is a very good proof of the state our indigenous treatment system had existed. Even today we use a number of important medicines not found in the Indian Pharmacopeia. Ex:- Buddharaja Kalka, Navaratne Kalka, Desadun Kalka, Seetharama Vati, Sunranvidura Vati, Siddhatha Oil, Garba Rathna Churna, Agraraja Tonic etc.
