About Us

This year The Doctors, established in Hawke’s Bay in 1989, celebrates 30 years. It was among the first medical centres in New Zealand to provide 7-day a week, extended hours care to patients.  There are now more than 40 medical centres in our group and our teams of doctors, nurses, care assistants, practice managers and administrators are committed to providing the best health care, advice and support to our communities.

The Doctors is part of Green Cross Health, a leading provider of primary health care services with a presence in almost every New Zealand community.

The company also supports more than 350 pharmacies under the Life Pharmacy and Unichem brands, and provides community health services and specialist nursing services to more than 23,000 clients.  We’ve been New Zealand owned and operated since 1981, and today, Green Cross Health has an 8,000-strong team including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, community and support staff, who are all unified by our values; caring for our community, looking after each other, working together and doing the right thing.

Green Cross Health’s legacy is in its name and its symbol, the green cross, which has been a marker of trusted health care for centuries and this continues today.
